With the new demand of convenient home based online solutions for various daily tasks, the need for efficient and easy to use approaches designed to connect households with reliable service providers like plumbers, electricians, carpenters etc. is increasing rapidly. If you are new to a place then it becomes very hectic and time consuming to get a professional and reliableserviceproviderwithnegotiableprices. Also, the helpers struggle to get work even with proper skills due to lack of connections or marketing. To address this challenge, an On-Demand service application was developed to make it easier for the consumer to get professionalsaccording.Theapplicationcaterstheissue of both the users as well as helpers by providing them a platform where they can approach each other as per their requirements, the user can search for a nearby helper and the helper gets service request from the user according to their skills. The implementation uses React.js for the frontend, Node.js with Express.js for backend and MongoDB for storing all the data. The APIs were tested using Postman and the application is hostedusingVercelwithcodemanagedonGitHub.The developed approach enhances helper accessibility, reduces user effort, and provides a scalable solution for household services. Future work may focus on more advanced version with better user experience.
Introduction
The rapid growth of internet usage has transformed the way people access daily services, making online platforms essential for tasks such as booking tickets, shopping, and household maintenance. However, finding reliable and skilled service providers for home repairs, including plumbers, electricians, carpenters, painters, and mechanics, remains a challenge, especially for people who are new to a location or have busy schedules. To address this issue, the proposed ServiceCo platform offers a one-stop online solution that connects customers with verified household service providers while also creating additional income opportunities for workers.
The literature review highlights several existing home service solutions that emphasize efficient service delivery through web and mobile platforms. Previous studies have focused on modular web-based systems, Android applications with Firebase authentication, user-centered designs featuring transparent pricing and simplified booking, geo-location services, secure online payments, real-time notifications, and verified service providers. These studies demonstrate that trust, service quality, and seamless communication are critical factors for successful home service platforms.
The proposed system is designed as a user-friendly, dynamic web application developed using Node.js, ReactJS, ExpressJS, MongoDB, and Firebase. Unlike traditional methods of finding workers, the platform enables customers to search for nearby service providers using the Google Maps API, making service discovery location-based and more efficient. Key features include service booking, location-based search, real-time updates, and comprehensive user management.
The system consists of three primary modules: Registration, Admin, and Service. During registration, customers and service providers create accounts using OTP verification, with workers providing additional professional information. The Admin module verifies worker credentials, manages user and worker profiles, and resolves system-related issues. In the Service module, customers submit service requests, which are sent to nearby workers. Service providers receive notifications, submit price quotations, and, upon customer approval, proceed to complete the requested service.
The platform follows a client-server architecture to ensure security and efficient communication. The frontend, built with ReactJS, provides separate interfaces for customers, service providers, and administrators. The backend, developed using Node.js and ExpressJS, manages authentication, booking operations, service management, and communication with the MongoDB database through RESTful APIs. User authentication and secure access are implemented using JSON Web Tokens (JWT) to prevent unauthorized access.
The implementation results demonstrate the successful development of the application's key interfaces, including the Home Page, where users search for required services, the Services Page, displaying available service categories, and the Registration Page, where both customers and service providers create their accounts. Overall, the proposed ServiceCo platform offers a secure, location-based, and efficient digital marketplace that simplifies access to trusted household services while improving customer convenience and providing employment opportunities for skilled workers.
