In response to the evolving needs of the Indian judiciary, this proposal introduces the e-Justice Bharat system, an innovative e-portal aimed at revolutionizing the landscape of case management hearings. The system offers a comprehensive solution to enhance the efficiency of the legal process, foster greater accessibility to legal services, and promote transparency throughout the judicial system. At the core of the e-Justice Bharat system is a user- friendly platform that enables litigants to effortlessly navigate the legal process. Through the portal, litigants can register, submit cases, select advocates based on expertise and availability, and conveniently manage payments online. Simultaneously, advocates are empowered to review cases, accept or decline requests, and efficiently manage case documents through electronic filing.
Introduction
The Indian judiciary has traditionally relied on manual, paper-based processes that cause inefficiencies, delays, and case backlogs. Efforts like the e-Courts project have begun digitizing case management, but challenges remain due to limited features, poor user experience, and compatibility issues with legacy systems. To overcome these limitations, the proposed e-Justice Bharat system aims to provide a comprehensive, integrated digital platform to modernize case management across India.
Key objectives of the system include:
Enhancing accessibility for litigants and advocates via a user-friendly online portal for case filing, advocate selection, payment processing, and case tracking.
Streamlining workflows with features like electronic document filing, real-time notifications, and online hearings through integrated video conferencing.
Ensuring transparency and accountability with real-time case updates and secure electronic records.
Incorporating advanced technologies such as AI for predictive case analysis, blockchain for secure document management, and cloud computing for scalability and reliability.
Improving user experience through intuitive UI design and ensuring security and compliance with legal data protection standards.
The system will operate nationwide, support various legal workflows (case submission, advocate management, pre-trial scheduling, payment integration), and leverage the MERN stack (MongoDB, Express.js, React.js, Node.js) for its scalable, responsive architecture. Additional features include speech-to-text transcription tailored for legal vocabulary to aid documentation and research.
