Tonnesofsolidwastearedisposedoffatlandfillsiteseveryday,originatingfromhomes, offices, industries, and other agricultural-related activities among which are the hotel and restaurant industries today; are presently practicing improper waste management practices in the sculleryofhotels.Ifwasteisnotproperlystoredandtreated,itcanpollutethesurroundingairand have a serious negative impact on human, wildlife, and environmental health.Lack of suitable facilities (equipment and infrastructure)and underestimatesof waste generation rates,inadequate management, improper collection and route planning are responsible for poor collection and transportationofmunicipalsolidwastes.Thispaperproposesanefficientmethodtoreducethesize of organic hotel waste and to create sustainable byproducts at economical investment, thereby generating profit from waste. It reveals that proper processing of waste can lead to adequate profitability for hotels and prevent environmental pollution.
Introduction
The hospitality sector’s rapid growth has led to a dramatic increase in waste production, including hazardous, recyclable, and organic waste. Traditional waste disposal methods like landfilling and incineration contribute to environmental damage, such as greenhouse gas emissions and water pollution. Sustainable hotel operations require efficient waste management systems that emphasize segregation, recycling, and energy recovery. Advanced technologies can recycle 50–65% of hotel waste, turning it into reusable resources.
A literature review highlights the challenges and opportunities of hotel waste management in India and globally. Key issues include poor segregation, lack of infrastructure, and limited awareness. Innovations such as AI-driven sorting, composting units, anaerobic digestion, and robotic waste processors have improved waste treatment in developed regions. Regulations and eco-certifications are pushing hotels towards sustainability, but developing countries face operational and resource constraints.
The methodology section details the design and manufacturing of a waste processing machine using CAD modeling, mild steel components, shredding blades, and heating coils. The working process involves sorting, shredding, drying, powdering, and converting waste into useful products like briquettes or organic fertilizer. Design calculations show the machine’s structural safety and efficiency.
Results indicate that the proposed machine effectively reduces waste volume by 30–40%, lowers moisture content for better processing, operates at low power consumption, and supports versatile waste-to-value applications. It offers a cost-effective, sustainable alternative to current high-cost, high-energy waste disposal equipment used in hotels.
Conclusion
Due to improper garbage treatment, one of India\'s biggest issues is the amount of waste generated by the hospitality industry. Therefore, creating a thorough waste management framework is essential to optimize every waste product in the hotel sector. The majority of hotel waste may be composted or recycled, According to the report, hotels that implement efficient recycling practices may eventually generate revenue in addition to helping the environment. GHG emissions can be significantlyreducedbyrecyclinganddisposingof waste at its source. As a result, it can reduce pollution and halt global warming, two major problems that humanity is now dealing with.Based on the results, this study has shown that using stabilized, sterilized, and ground-up restaurant food waste as an alternative to organic chicks is feasible.Thus, this might ensure that the public is consuming a balanced diet and boost poultryproductionatalowercost.Futureresearch isencouragedbytheresultsofthisstudytosupport the use of recovered food waste as chicken feed while maintaining environmental protection and current livestock standards.
