Smart warehousing integrates Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, automation, and advanced data analytics to improve warehouse efficiency and accuracy. With the rapid growth of e-commerce and global trade, traditional warehouse systems are being replaced with technology-driven operations. This study examines the role of IoT and robotics in smart warehousing, analyzes key benefits and challenges, and evaluates technological improvements in warehouse management.
Introduction
Smart warehousing is an advanced warehouse management approach that integrates technologies such as IoT, robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), and cloud computing to automate operations. These technologies enable real-time inventory tracking, faster order processing, improved accuracy, and enhanced supply chain efficiency, especially in response to growing customer demand for rapid delivery.
The study aims to understand smart warehousing concepts, examine the role of IoT and robotics, evaluate technological improvements, and analyze the benefits and challenges of automation. Using a descriptive research design based on secondary data, the study explores the impact of technology implementation on warehouse performance.
Key technologies identified include IoT (RFID, sensors, GPS) for real-time tracking, Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) for picking and transporting goods, Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) for inventory coordination, and AI for demand forecasting and predictive analytics.
Data analysis shows that IoT tracking systems (26.7%) and autonomous robots (23.3%) are the most preferred technologies for improving warehouse efficiency. Satisfaction levels are high, with 86% of respondents either highly satisfied or satisfied with smart warehouse technologies. Additionally, 80% reported high or very high improvements in operational efficiency, indicating strong positive impacts.
The findings conclude that IoT and robotics significantly enhance productivity, reduce long-term operational costs, and improve order accuracy. The study recommends implementing IoT-based inventory systems, gradually adopting robotics, providing employee training, and strengthening cybersecurity measures to ensure successful automation.
Overall, smart warehousing significantly improves operational efficiency and represents a critical advancement in modern supply chain management.
Conclusion
The study concludes that smart warehousing using IoT and robotics enhances operational efficiency, accuracy, and customer satisfaction. Though initial investment is high, long-term benefits such as cost reduction, faster processing, and better inventory control make it a vital strategy for modern supply chain management.
