Introduction

However, their excessive use has led to growing concerns about smartphone addiction, where individuals feel a compulsive need to use their devices even when it negatively affects their academic, professional, and personal lives. Modern app designs with constant notifications and infinite scrolling further encourage overuse and make it difficult to disconnect.
Existing research shows that smartphone addiction is linked to anxiety, stress, sleep problems, reduced concentration, academic decline, and physical issues like eye strain and neck pain. Social media use, digital entertainment, and using smartphones as an escape from boredom or stress are major contributing factors.
This study uses a qualitative approach based on previous research and observations to understand causes, effects, and possible solutions. The findings highlight that smartphone addiction impacts mental, physical, social, and academic well-being. To reduce dependency, strategies such as monitoring screen time, limiting unnecessary apps, disabling notifications, and engaging in offline activities are recommended.
