This project focuses on the formulation and evaluation of a herbal lipstick using natural and skin-friendly ingredients. With rising consumer awareness regarding the harmful effects of synthetic cosmetics, there is a growing interest in herbal alternatives. The lipstick was formulated using beeswax (5g) as a base to provide structure and hardness, almond oil (4.5 drops) and coconut oil (10 ml) for their moisturizing properties, and rose petals (5g) for natural color and mild fragrance. Strawberry essence and rose water were added in appropriate quantities (qs) to enhance aroma and consistency. The formulation was prepared using the melt and pour method and poured into lipstick molds for solidification. The final product was evaluated for parameters such as texture, melting point, color uniformity, spreadability, and stability. The results indicated that the herbal lipstick possessed good cosmetic properties and user acceptability, making it a safe, eco-friendly, and effective alternative to conventional lipsticks.
Introduction
Lipsticks have been a significant cosmetic product for beautification, personal hygiene, and protection. Due to concerns about synthetic chemicals in commercial lipsticks causing adverse effects, there is growing interest in herbal lipsticks made from natural, safe, and skin-friendly ingredients. This project formulates a herbal lipstick using beeswax, almond oil, coconut oil, rose petals, strawberry essence, and rose water—ingredients chosen for their moisturizing, soothing, coloring, and fragrance properties.
The preparation involved extracting color from dried rose petals, melting beeswax and coconut oil as the base, and blending in almond oil and natural extracts. The mixture was poured into molds and solidified at room temperature.
The herbal lipstick was evaluated for color uniformity, melting point, texture, spreadability, pH, stability under various conditions, irritancy, and user acceptability. The tests confirmed the product to be stable, skin-friendly, easy to apply, and free from irritation. The method is simple, cost-effective, and suitable for small-scale production of natural, eco-friendly lipsticks.
Conclusion
The study successfully developed a herbal lipstick using natural ingredients like beeswax, coconut oil, almond oil, rose petals, and strawberry essence. The lipstick was found to be effective in providing color, smooth texture, and moisturization without causing any irritation or side effects. It passed essential evaluation tests for Ph, texture, spreadability, and stability. The final product showed promising results as a skin-safe, eco-friendly cosmetic alternative. With increased consumer interest in herbal products, this lipstick formulation holds strong commercial and research potential.
